€15 Silver Proof Coin 2016
1916 Remembered: 100 Years of the Proclamation
To mark the centenary of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic the Central Bank of Ireland is also issuing limited edition commemorative coins in gold and silver. These striking collector coins depict a representation of Hibernia with key words and phrases from the Proclamation.
These coins are issued with certificates of authenticity and a document tracing the history of this momentous occasion. The coins were designed by Michael Guilfoyle who has over thirty years experience as a numismatic artist. He has designed coins and medals for countries throughout the world and is best known to coin collectors for his coin designs for Ireland, including those commemorating Sir William Rowan Hamilton, Skellig Michael and Saint Brendan.
The silver proof coin issued to commemorate the centenary of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic is a magnificent tribute to the momentous events of 1916. Struck in .925 sterling silver, the large size of this coin shows off the detail of the elegant Hibernia figure to best effect.
