Description

Women received the right to vote when it came into law on 6 February 1918, under the Representation of the People Act 1918. This limited edition commemorative coin is issued to celebrate this significant centenary and design by renowned numismatic artist, Michael Guilfoyle.

The design celebrates the progression of equality for women in Ireland over the last century. The figure of a suffragette stands in the foreground resolutely holding a banner demanding the vote for Irish women.

Behind her in silhouette is a procession of confident and determined women marching forward to represent the progress in equality from 1918 to present day. They stride along a road painted in the colours of the suffragette movement in Ireland. This is the first Irish commemorative coin to feature colour since the Special Olympics coin 2003.

 The proof coin comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. This limited issue commemorative coin has been struck in .925 sterling silver to proof quality and is limited to 3,000 pieces. The diameter of the coin in 38.61mm and it weighs 28.28g
