The Native Irish Honey Bee The 2021 Annual Mint Set highlights the importance of the honey bee and outlines way we can help our pollinators. There has been a world-wide decline in all bee species in recent years. Habitat loss, intensification of agriculture and use of pesticides have resulted in “a crisis in Irish bees”. This has led to serious concerns about their essential pollinator role and the drastic effect that their decline could have on biodiversity and food production. To counteract this, the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan was established by the National Biodiversity Data Centre in 2015.
